as a joint u.s. afghan special team went in to save the life of dr. dilip joseph, an american doctor who was kidnapped two days before with two members of his afghan staff. the staff was released earlier when a small ransom was made but the taliban was asking for $100,000 for dr. joseph's release. general john allen felt that his life was in imminent danger and then called for the rescue mission as special operations team lured the taliban in, saying they would pay the ransom. the taliban came. instead, they were met by this team who killed at least six taliban insurgents. unfortunately, this u.s. navy s.e.a.l. also lost his life. his identity has not yet been released but he is being labeled a hero by the top brass in washington, including secretary of defense leon panetta and president barack obama who in a statement said he gave his life for his fellow americans and he and his teammates remind us once more of the selfless service that allows our nation to stay strong, safe and free. the american navy s.e.a.l. sacrifice has not been lost on dr. joseph's family who, in a statement relea

following, it's the fallout over that scathing report on the attack in the u.s. mission in benghazi, libya. heads are already rolling over this story, people. the release of that report by the independent panel yesterday had quite an impact. four state department officials have now been disciplined. eric boswell, the assistant secretary of diplomatic security now resigned and three other people on administrative leave. as we reported yesterday, the panel blasted the state department for, quote, grossly inadequate security at our mission there. the attacks on september 11th, you'll remember killed u.s. ambassador to libya chris stevens. it also killed three other people who were working with us at that mission. secretary of state hillary clinton has accepted full responsibility. and she sent a letter to congress saying she accepts all of the panel's 29 recommendations. joining us live from the state department. first of all, elise, lay out for me if you could the four people removed from their posts. what is the story about them? who were they? what did they do? and why did these people get

crime in britain is very low compared with the u.s. gun crime has been falling in england every year for the last eight years. in scotland, it's at the lowest level for well over 20 years and as you probably know, a lot of people in america don't know, gun deaths in great britain, gun homicides are running at about 30 to 35 per year. now, i understand that's a similar number to the number per day in the usa. >> there is a theory put out by the pro gun lobby theorists as in newtown here is to arm the teachers. what is your reaction to that? >> i just do not understand the logic of that. if they arm the teachers, does that mean they also have to provide the teachers with body armor? i understand that he had body armor on to protect himself being shot at. do the children have to have body armor? how far do we have to go? the idea that because the problem is guns the answer is guns is simply ridiculous and i think it reflects more that some people take every opportunity to expand the gun trade. >> there are obviously many families grieving, appalling, appalling grief that they are going
